i'm getting bored

Yeah, noone reads this, and that means i really can't be bothered anymore. But i'm not quitting just yet, cause i always quit. And i shouldn't.
right :)

Got a bit of news for youu...

Think you recognise any of them? Probably, this is a new band called Isles & Glaciers and it's made up of members from the likes of Chiodos, Dance Gavin Dance, Pierce The Veil, Underminded and The Receiving End Of Sirens. Official recordings are nowhere to be found but you can listen to some pretty good demos here. Vocalists Craig Owens (Chiodos) and Johnny Craig (formerly of Dance Gavin Dance) work together perfectly and it seems like this band are gonna be pretty incredible.

Also, The Maccabees are officially back, and to celebrate, they're giving away their new song 'No Kind Words' on their website here, along with the video featuring Gavin And Stacey stars.

Here's a few bands you should hear.

Dancing Ghosts
www.myspace.com/dancinghostsband

This electro screamo band state that they've been influenced by Enter Shikari and HORSE The Band, and on listening, the influences are obvious. They don't hold many unique qualities and the songs up on the myspace are really bad quality, but even still I see so much potential in these.
Recommended: No Stop.

Raina
www.myspace.com/rainamusicpage

Producing only slow, acoustic songs, this isn't the kind of artist I usually like, but I actually loved the songs on first listen. Perfectly singing heartfelt love songs, you'll easily like Raina AKA Michael Rainsford if you like acoustic music, and probably if you like acts such as Nevershoutnever!.
Recommended: Spread Our Wings, Everything I Want Is You, Finding You.

Lost On Landing
www.myspace.com/lostonlanding

Yet another band representing for pop punk in England, it seems like the bands dominating the genre who are nearly all from overseas have some competition on their hands. Reminiscent of the usual addictive pop punk sound, the mix of vocal ranges and added piano make the band even better.
Recommended: Now Or Never, Sidecars Are For Sidekicks.

Fire In The Eyes Of The City
www.myspace.com/fireintheeyesofthecity

Pop punk with a hint of screamo, FITEOTC bring up tempo beats and contagious hooks which means you should like them instantly. You should like them if you like bands like Escape The Fate, and they personally really remind me of Marilyn Avenue.

Also, listen to I, SAID THE SPY
they're a really really good band, but i don't have time to write about them and i'll forget next time.

i've already got more bands to talk about next time.
:) bye

oh and here's you me at six's strange new video for 'save it for the bedroom'

Not a very big update but

is so diverse that it's crazyyy:)

I went to see Boys Like Girls not long back, I really wasn't looking forward to it but it ended up being an incredible night, and it was actually fun instead of a struggle all night trying to push through the crowd. First band Every Avenue were amazing. They make simple, raw pop punk; they're a bit like Farewell and the other quick rising bands at the moment. I definitely recommend. Metro Station were even better than them, as embarassing as it is to admit. Since then, I've gone and bought their self titled album and it's so good. 80's inspired cheesy electro rock might not sound appealing, but it really is. Whether they annoy you or not, the songs are so catchy you're forced to like them.

Boys Like Girls were obviously the best of all. They played a good sized set at just under an hour and they interacted a lot with the crowd. It was my second time seeing them and I still can't believe how much better they are live. Now I'm just waiting until their next tour :]

(Boys Like Girls)

I also went to the Kerrang! Relentless tour which featured (in order) In Case Of Fire, Black Tide, Dir En Grey, Bring Me The Horizon and Mindless Self Indulgence. I didn't think much of In Case Of Fire, a bit boring and not memorable at all. 3rd time seeing Black Tide and they were as good as they've always been, seriously good band. I hadn't listened to Dir En Grey before and didn't realise they were goth death metal. I was a bit scared for my life on the second row when they opened with an ear piercing scream. They were quite awful tbh. I loved Bring Me The Horizon, they're the reason I went really. Frontman Oli Sykes had been ill and noone knew if he would make it or not, but I'm so glad he did. Full of energy and exactly what you'd expect from them really.

(Bring Me The Horizon; photo credit: www.adamelmakias.com)

But Mindless Self Indulgence stole the night. I'm so glad I finally got the barrier for them. They were actually better than all of the other bands together... x10 :) I love it when bands put on a show rather than just play a few songs and with MSI they never disappoint. There's plenty of banter with the crowd, a huge comedy element as Jimmy Urine is hilarious and just the perfect frontman, and songs played with huge talent. If you only see one band again, make sure it's these.

BANDS...

Me Vs Hero
www.myspace.com/mevshero

What I love about these is that they're pop punk with metal elements, which means they stand out from the rest. In one song they might go from a huge intro to perfectly sung vocals by frontman Sam Thompson, to metal-style breakdowns and then onto epic gang vocals. All of this means they'd be amazing live; they're touring with the amazing Paige soon and I'd hate to miss it.
Recommended: Hand Me The Keys To Massey, Starrraiders and Spaceinvaders

Trainspotters
www.myspace.com/trainspottersuk

In the first few seconds of listening you might think Trainspotters are just another indie band, one that often sound a lot like Bloc Party. But you'll soon realise they're something so much more, as this band are indie rock n roll with rapping, something that isn't often done. The rap sounds perfect over the simple drum beat and indie riffs, I think they're really quite amazing ;]
Recommended: Welcome To London.

Driving East
www.myspace.com/drivingeast

Definitely my favourite band of the moment. This pop punk foursome are hardly known at all but they have the most professional sound like they've been doing this all of their life. They have the usual catchy chorus', the beats that mean you can't stop listening and the 'woah's that seem to creep into almost every song of this genre nowadays, but this isn't necessarily a band thing as they do it so well.
Recommended: Backseat, Blue Eyes.

Random Conflict
www.myspace.com/randomconflictband

It takes quite a lot for me to like a hardcore band these days, but this band have everything that gets me liking this sound. They're a local band for me and I feel stupid for not listening to them before now. Even though Random Conflict are a bit heavier, you'll like them if you're into bands like Bring Me The Horizon, except RC care more about their music than their look, and it really shows in the songs. I'm also seeing them support Chiodos soon which I can't wait for.
Recommended: Kellerman, California Baby Get With The Programme.

The Takeover UK
www.myspace.com/thetakeoveruk

This band are totally different to any other on this post. Sounding like they're from 40 years ago, and also sharing similarities to bands such as the overrated Zutons , the highly underrated Sonic Hearts, and very often Strokes-style guitar riffs, they could easily have chart success. This is britpop at it's best, sung by the rough sounding frontman which only adds to the rock and roll element.
Recommended: Don't Wait Up, Ah La La, Kill Me Dead.

I never liked Hit The Lights before but recently I'm warming to them, especially the songs I've heard from their old EP. But they have a new album out 'Skip School, Start Fights' and even though most of it doesn't sound very good, their new single Drop The Girl does. Here it is;

I have 2 songs to recommend, both really different, first First Class Fever's 'Mind Over Matter'. I didn't think they were too good on a first listen, but I couldn't stop playing this one song. Listen here;
www.myspace.com/firstclassfever

Also, Frank Turner's 'Reasons Not To Be An Idiot'. It's indie folk and incredibly catchy. You might have been lucky enough to get it free on itunes last week. This is the only place I can find it online so here's the video;

I'm done. The next post will include a review of the Chiodos gig and more than likely a lot of pop punk bands ;]

it's definitely time

for a new blog:)

I have so much to write about on this one that I've moved some of it over to the next blog, oh yes ;]
There are so many free downloads, I'm spoiling you.

I'll start by talking about We Are The Ocean. I went to see them last week and it was a really good show, full of energy as you would expect from a quick rising screamo band, but they didn't really seem to possess any unique qualities, to make their show memorable. Even though we didn't get to see any supports, me and my friend bought the ep of one them, My Emergency. Now I'm seriously gutted I didn't see them. They're smooth, polished pop punk, and really remind me of You Me At Six, which should help them in collecting some new fans, I definitely recommend them.

NEW BANDS;

Colour
www.myspace.com/colouruk

This blog hasn't seen much indie for a while, but one listen to this band and I couldn't deny the talent they have. I'm not saying indie bands don't have talent, I'm just saying I'm not so into it lately. There's plenty of up tempo indie beats to make sure every song has a feel good mood added to it, but they just take it to another level. The songs have so many twists and turns that it's like you're listening to a medoly of different songs. They really possess the whole 'tropical indie' sound that the likes of Vampire Weekend do, so there's no doubt that they could get really big, really fast.
Recommended: Chutes, Conversations.

Blakfish
www.myspace.com/blakfish

I wouldn't go to the extremes of labelling this band 'death pop' like they do on their myspace page, but this Birmingham quartet are definitely something quite different. Mixing a whole load of different musical styles, from indie guitar riffs moving onto the more metal sound, from screaming 'even I can' repeatedly, more aggressive each time, to mellowing down and singing catchy verses with encouraging backing vocals. This band are reminiscent of many, recent Biffy Clyro kept coming to mind for me but they also remind me of certain hardcore bands like Refused.
Recommended: 22nd, Jeremy Kyle Is A Marked Man.

Breathe Electric
www.myspace.com/breatheelectric

Overly poppy beats and computerised vocals dominated by electro: usually a generically boring type of music that I stay away from. Breathe Electric, the stage name for Grant, does it in a way that I just can't help but love. The catchy lyrics and annoyingly catchy beats will force you to like it. You'll definitely like him if you like all of those acts like Nickasaur, The Ready Set, blah blah blahhh :/ and if you don't like all of that, there's still a huge chance you'll like Breathe Electric.

Robot Love Story
www.myspace.com/robotlovestory

These were probably my favourite band on my little band search this time. Much of their sound won't come as much of a surprise. They're very powerpop, and very similar to most bands in that genre, but they're added synthesizer sounds and intro's that sound like they belong on an 80's gameshow seperate them slightly. They're also doing something completely unique in their merch store called their 'Song Shop'. Basically, give them a topic and pay them and they will actually write you your own song. I think it's an amazing idea :)
Recommended: Drowning, Picture Frames.

Inept
www.myspace.com/ineptband

I found this band ages ago, and I think I meant to write about them. Well basically I was on the bus going through my iPod, listened to these and realised how amazing they are. Just your usual pop punk, but there's hints of them which make it impossible for you not to like them. They're perfect harmonies and added gang vocals do it for me, but I love the break down and build up between the verses and choruses too, and how they use the most simple guitar riffs but sound as good as they do. This could be a band to watch ;]
Recommended: Deepest Need, It's All In Our Head.

The Bay State
http://www.myspace.com/thebaystate

I found this band because they added me on the social network Twitter. I don't usually take any notice of bands who add me, because there's just too many of them, but luckily I listened to these, and I heard something I'm sure I haven't heard before (correct me if I'm wrong...). This band have everything any other pop punk band does, but they also include violins. It's not hugely noticeable but adds so much to their songs and it makes me wonder why more bands don't do this, as this band are quite incredible.
Recommended: 1944, Baby Girl This Is A Stick Up, Let's Turn This City On.

I mentioned the new album Punk Goes Pop 2 last time. Just a quick update on that.. the Silverstein cover of One Republic's 'Apologise' is now up on the Myspace, which is here.
And talking about Silverstein, they're officially back, proving it by uploading a new song, 'Broken Stars' on their Myspace, here. I didn't like their last album, Arrivals And Departures as much as I thought I would, because it was just so similar to the previous one, Discovering The Waterfront, which has got to be one of my favourite ever albums. It seems like they are going down that route again, and may be releasing the same album for a third time, but I love the new song so much that I'm not thinking about it too much ;]

DOWNLOADS;

-Pop punkers Get Set Radio, who were recommended in the last post, are giving away their song 'Turn Up The Heat'. Click here to get it.

-Enter Shikari are giving away an epic, almost 9 minute long remix of their recent single 'We Can Breathe In Space'. It's not that good, but it's free, so click here to get it.

-Late Of The Pier are apparently giving away a remix of their amazing, 'Focker'. The link doesn't work for me, but maybe you'll have better luck, click here.

-Solo electro songstress Little Boots is giving away an exclusive mixtape, click here.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!
Amazing incredible wonderful indie band The Maccabees have released some studio videos, each sampling little snippets of songs, which may/may not appear on the new album. They've also announced some new tour dates, and it's all very exciting. Here's the latest installment in their studio videos to finish off;

Just a quick update

I have quite a bit to say actually.. and there will be a couple more downloads here and there aswelll.

I finally bought Bring Me The Horizon's latest album, Suicide Season not long back. I had mixed expectations about it but wanted it anyway as I'm seeing them at the end of the month on the Kerrang! Tour. Surprisingly, I absolutely love the album and I was wrong to think they've gone more commercial as some of the songs on there are heavy thrash metal, heavier than their usual songs. Highlights of the album are the powerful Diamons Aren't Forever which cleverly features lyrics from their first EP, and the short but sweet number Football Season Is Over which repeats 'party till you pass out, drink till you're dead, dance all night till you can't feel your legs', getting more intense each time. If you usually like these then you'll definitely love this, don't let Chelsea Smile put you off like it did to me haha.

If you're familiar with the 'Punk Goes...' selection of compliations that are out there, you might be glad to know they're relasing another. 'Punk Goes Crunk' is my personal favourite, with The Maine covering Akon's 'I Wanna Love You' and All Time Low covering Rihanna's very overcovered and overplayed song 'Umbrella' but doing it really well for once. The next in the series will be 'Punk Goes Pop 2'. I've just seen the songlist and now I can't wait for the release. Visit the myspace to see the songlist and get more information;
http://www.myspace.com/punkgoespop2

I've featured Christofer Drew, most well known as Nevershoutnever! on the blog before, he's acoustic electro and has the most amazing voice. The reason I'm featuring him again is because he has a new song up on his myspace, Trouble, which is way too good. Go and listen ;]

Bandsss...

Paige
www.myspace.com/paigeuk

I'm writing about these first cause if you're into pop punk you've probably heard them anyway, and also because they're my new favourite band. I know I say that in every post haha. These are one of the bands I heard ages ago, and didn't think much, but on the second listen I was just kicking myself cause they're actually amazing. It's the usual pop punk, but done to a perfect standard, and the bands taking all the spotlight like You Me At Six need to watch out cause I think these are the ones about to take their place.
Recommended: You Got Guts, Dear Heartstrings.

Get Set Radio
www.myspace.com/getsetradio

I didn't know whether to put these on the blog, but now I'm just in love with one of their songs so I thought I would. These aren't great and I feel bad saying that they come across like amateurs, but it's true. Saying that, you can definitely see the potential. They make melodic pop punk, just full with emotion, and that's mostly down to the singers voice which is really reminiscent of frontman Patrick of Fall Out Boy, which should get them plenty attention.
Recommended: Falling By The Dozen.

With Honest Eyes
www.myspace.com/withhonesteyes

I kinda liked these about 2 years ago, but it doesn't seem that in that time they've got much bigger, so I thought I'd tell some people about them. They're a bit different to the other bands featured here in the sense that they're a screamo band aswell as still having plenty of the pop punk aspects. I still really like the older songs and they have new songs on their myspace at the moment that include electro influences, and on a first listen they're sounding really good too.
Recommended: Dickmove, A New Fall Fashion, Mirror Mirror.

A Loss Of Words
www.myspace.com/alossforwords

I came across these in the middle of my search for bands, and I wasn't having much luck at all. I'm really glad I found these; up tempo, catchy, repetitive (somehow in a good way) powerpop at it's best. The harmonising from the rest of the band works too well and they're one of those bands you can just imagine being great live aswell.
Recommended: Half Step Down, A Theme For Your Ego.

Mister Owl
www.myspace.com/misterowlband

I was only going to do a brief feature on these for their free download, but they deserve more than that. I mentioned Nevershoutnever! earlier in the post, well this is his band. It's really weird first listening to these cause you can't imagine him making music so different to his solo work. I'd call this DIY screamo powerpunk, yeah they're really quite different. They have metal, electro, pop punk and even death metal aspects. You'll probably like these if you like Devil Wears Prada or Enter Shikari.
Recommended: The Two-Armed Man, The Point.
Click here for a free download of their new song Mother May I.

Little Majorette
www.myspace.com/littlemajorette

This is something a lot different, not only from the rest of the bands on this post but on the whole blog. I'd call them female fronted indie pop.. with a twist. Sometimes they're electro, sometimes they use carnival beats, or beats that sound like they belong on an ancient video game, sometimes they're tropical, and all the time frontwoman Zoe is singing in her dreamy style that suits the music only too well; the best thing is you just don't know what they're gonna do next.
Recommended: London, Machine.

The incredible screamo pop rock band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are back, their new album is out in February and if their new song is anything like the rest of the album, then they're taking a new direction. I really like it anyway, here's the video for You Better Pray;

The huge indie rock band Sherwood are giving away a free song over at their Absolute Punk page. It's a bit out of season now as it's actually a christmas song but just listen :] the download link has disappeared but it'll play automatically if you click here. Sorry about that :S

One last thing, if you're into R'n'B at all, then listen to Ne-Yo's new song, Mad. It's not usually my type of music but it's a catchy singalong ballad and I've had it on repeat for days. Also, if you like older music (I'm talking 70's/80's) or punk music then listen to The Rezillos and Generation X. They're both too good. Yeah I'm diverse ;]

That's it, and that was much longer than I thought it would be. Expect another post in 3-4 weeks, sorry I just don't find as much new music as I used to, but I'll try. By the way if anyone is handy with photoshop and has some free time, I wouldn't mind a nice banner that I can use to advertise the blog, and in the meantime you can just spread the word :]
