Sorry..

yeah I haven't blogged in ages, but I have quite a bit to say so it should make up for it.

First, long running alternative screamo band Underoath have a new album coming out this September and they've uploaded one of the new songs Desperate Times Desperate Measures to their myspace (www.myspace.com/underoath). This song will be no surprise to Underoath fans, as they have kept to their same sound that has always worked. Most bands are taking new directions lately and even though it's good to experiment and develop musically, many bands change for the worse so it's good to see Underoath using the same sound.

The Cab
www.myspace.com/thecab

Think about Fall Out Boy's new sound; RnB mixed with pop punk. Personally I really don't think it works for them, but The Cab are example where it can work. Their catchy pop songs with huge chorus' are mixed with break downs and harmonies. And speaking of Fall Out Boy, their frontman Patrick Stump features on debut single One Of Those Nights along with Panic At The Disco's Brendon Urie.
Recommended songs: One Of Those Nights, Take My Hand.

Out Of Sight
www.myspace.com/outofsight

There aren't that many pop punk bands that are from the UK. There are the few like You Me At Six and Tonight Is Goodbye who get a lot of hype but the majority of bigger bands all hail from the US. Coming from Beaconsfield, this is a band that the UK should be proud of. They're your typical pop punk band, but replacing the whiney-voiced vocalist for a singer with a smoother deep singing voice, and like pop punk fans would be used to- catchy upbeat songs with stop-start drum effects and infectious chorus'.
Recommended songs: Time To Change, Amongst The Saints We March.

-Talking about You Me At Six, I can't stop playing them at the moment. I know everyone liked them a long time ago but I only thought they were average then. I downloaded loads more of their songs and I love them now. They're one of the best pop punk bands I've heard in a long time and I really hope I can catch them on their October UK tour. Watch the video for their song If I Were In Your Shoes here:

(I would have embedded it but the site won't let me..)

A Girl Called Kate
www.myspace.com/agckband

This is a quirky electro band from Peterborough. They have simple beats but they're so effective and incredibly catchy, and the singer has a really strong voice to go over it. They're just a really lovable band and I'd say you're an immediate fan if you're into bands like Trash Fashion and We Smoke Fags. Watch out for their songs The Plan with the really mental intro, you'll know what I mean.
Recommended songs: Avocados In The Morning, The Plan.

I'M MEANT TO BE ADDING MORE TO THIS POST BUT I'VE GOT TO GO :)
SO I MIGHT EDIT THE POST OR JUST POST ANOTHER TOMORROW, COMMENTS PLEASE.

CSS album preview, plus more bands.

CSS (Cansei De Ser Sexy) have a new album out called 'Donkey' which features the latest single 'Left Behind'. I loved CSS at first, I still think their debut single 'Off The Hook' is amazing to this day, but when I bought the debut self-titled album, I was really disappointed and found it really average. Because of that I didn't have high hopes for the new album, but when they put the entire thing on myspace I listened out of curiosity and it sounds a lot better than I'd expected! Full of upbeat electro songs, if you already liked CSS you'll probably like this album better than the first one and you might even like it if you were disappointed the first time around too.

Recommended: Jager Yoga, Rat Is Dead Rage.

The Thirst

Indie and soul isn't usually mixed together, but when it is you get something that sounds like The Thirst. This London 4 man band is just bound to do well with their catchy, indie riff filled songs, sung by Mensah Cofie-Agyeman who has the similar soulful voice to Kele from Bloc Party. I reckon this band are one to look out for ;]
Recommended: My Everything, Ready To Move.

Howling Bells
I was watching Howling Bells' performance at the 02 Wireless Festival on MTV2 and even though they're not my kind of band, they did actually look really good. Listen to these if you're into ambient, folk, indie. That's how I'd describe them. The female singer has an amazing voice and they look great live too.
Recommended: Low Happening.

Speaking of festivals, I'm going to my first music festival this summer; Underage Festival in Victoria Park on the 8th August. It's called Underage cause it's only for 14-18 year olds and it's only the second year running. It's mostly indie/electro bands like Maccabees, Foals, Mystery Jets and The Horrors but Dizzee Rascal and Gallows are also there. Expect a review on it sometime after ;)
More comments this time please? x

Free downloads from The Grates.

Australian punk indie band The Grates have a new album coming out on August 2nd, 'Teeth Lost, Hearts Won'. If you haven't heard them before take this chance to download 2 of their songs for free, one new and one old.

Click here to download 'Lies Are Much More Fun' taken from their 2006 album Gravity Won't Get You High.

Click here to download 'Call Of The Wild' which was originally recorded to be on the upcoming album but they decided that it didn't fit the bill and gave it away free instead.

There's so many albums I want at the moment but yesterday I got pop punk band Boys Like Girls' 2007 self titled release. I knew I'd like it because I've heard so many of the songs before. I saw them live in May 08 with Cute Is What We Aim For and We The Kings and they were amazing so I'll definitely be seeing them if they come back for an Autumn tour. My favourite songs on the album are The Great Escape and Thunder so download those if you haven't heard these before.

I don't have anything else to post right now but I've noticed that the view count of the blog is slowly going up so leave a comment when you're here. I'm thinking about doing a special post on my favourite bands, bands that have influenced me and about bands I've seen live. Let me know what else you'd like to see me cover, thankss.

Quite a bit to get through...

Yeah I have a heapp of bands to talk about so I'll just get on with it ;]
By the way, go and see Mamma Mia! If it doesn't make you come home and download a load of Abba songs then you're mental.

The Chemists
www.myspace.com/thechemistsmusic

I found this Australian grunge indie band when I was sent one of their songs, Big Wig to review. I was impressed with it straight away and it reminded me of the likes of Strokes and Weezer. This is what part of my review read;

"Well when it comes to gritty indie punk songs this has just about everything. Any reviewers who have made comments on the singers voice obviously don't know this music enough. If his voice was perfect and polished the song wouldn't have the same edge and grit to it and it would actually change the whole view of the song to me. There's a hint of Sonic Youth on the riff in the chorus and I love the huge build up near the end of the song before the solo".

Listen to Big Wig. More of the bands songs can be found here- www.numberonemusic.com/thechemists/

Without A Face
www.myspace.com/withoutaface

Without A Face used to be a 5 member band. Unfortunately they split up but the singer is carrying on the same name as a solo project. Listen to one of their old songs Pigs on this page, I personally love it. Going solo, Without A Face is now a load of nice acoustic songs, which I also really like because the singer has such an incredible voice. Listenn!
Recommended: The Band Broke Up.

KASMs
www.myspace.com/kasms

Featuring Rory Bratwell, formally of Nu Rave founders Test Icicles, this is KASMs- a goth like indie band. With loud and in-your-face lyrics sung by Rachel Mary Callaghan, they could be described as a female fronted version of the Horrors.
Recommended: every song on the myspace!

What Would Jesus Drive?
www.myspace.com/whatwouldjesusdrive

I was put off by the name of this band before I'd heard them; I imagined an acoustic folk band and that they'd be not much different to all the rest. But it goes to show you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, I was really pleasantly surprised when I listened. They make upbeat indie pop songs and they both sing, I love bands where there's a male and female singer so they have just about everything.
Recommended: Black and Blue, Boomtown Twats, Fragile Mansions.

Fuck Dress
www.myspace.com/fuckdress

Fuck Dress are another male and female fronted band that make simple catchy indie pop songs with quirky lyrics like "God is dead so I listened to Radiohead". How could you not like that!? Unfortunately I doubt they'll get much airplay with a name like that...
Recommended: Suburban Nietzsche Freak, Isolation.

The Brownies
www.myspace.com/thebrownies

A fun band yet again woman fronted. Catchy riffs and indie drum beats, you've got to have some of the Brownies in your music library. My favourite song is Vaseline Kids which is about a girl moaning cause there isn't any naked men on her TV, ha.
Recommended: Vaseline Kids, Means To An End.

Saving Aimee
www.myspace.com/savingaimee

Saving Aimee are basically all I've played today. I heard their new song Small Talk last night and I've been hooked since. With the fast sung lyrics in the verse, the built up chorus that you just have to sing along to, a wicked guitar solo and the added synth, this is a powerpop anthem. I haven't had much time to listen to any more of their songs cause I'm too hooked on this one. And I would recommend that you sign up for their mailing list by clicking here because they'll give you Small Talk for free.
Recommended: Small Talk!!!

Why hi.

Hiiii, I'm Lily. I've never had a blog before that lasted more than a day I don't think. Basically I'm always finding new music but don't really share the bands with anyone so I thought it's about time I did. That's what this blog will be used for. There will be mostly indie and pop punk but I like a variety of music so yeah. Please post your comments on the bands and I'll try to keep this blog posted. Thankss!

Well I'll start now cause I've found quite a few bands today.

The first band is called Maths Class.
They're an indie band from Brighton (which I've noticed is an amazing place for indie music). I heard of these quite a while back but only just listened to their new song Nerves today. It isn't as catchy as the stuff I'd heard before and I much prefer the other 2 songs on their myspace. Have a listen ;]

The next band are The Vines.
Yeahh, this band have been going around for years but 'Get Free' came on Kerrang! TV today and I realised I'd never listened to anymore of their songs. Now I've actually listened, I'm ashamed of myself. They're an upbeat indie punk band and have a new album out called Melodia. But their song Anysound from their 2006 album Vision Valley is what I'd recommend.

Then there's Shrag.

Another band from Brighton, these are a pop indie female fronted band who have some riot grrrl aspects to them. The riot grrrl revolution should have never died out so I like to see bands that are keeping it going like this one, Das Wunderlust and Gossip. Anyway, listen to New Favourites.

That's all for now.
